The Department of Oncological Sciences
Established in 1994, the Department of Oncological Sciences performs research and provides training with an emphasis in cancer biology. In 1999, the department moved into the Huntsman Cancer Institute, a new institute at the University of Utah with the mission to discover the origins of human cancer as well as develop new diagnostics and treatments.
The Department of Oncological Sciences brings together a community of faculty, students, and staff. There are 23 faculty and 8 adjunct members. In addition, there are approximately 40 graduate students and 30 post-doctoral fellows in research laboratories.
Our graduate program offers Ph. D. degrees with specialized training in gene expression, cell biology, molecular pharmacology and developmental biology. Researchers are also affiliated with disease programs within the Huntsman Cancer Institute including programs in Melanoma, Children's Cancer (leukemia, sarcoma), Breast, Ovarian, and Colon Cancer.
